How to Think and Cause Change

What to Think About

Matthew 6:10

‘Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.

Think about establishing God’s Kingdom in your life and in your sphere of influence.  Think about doing God’s will on earth as it is in heaven.

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever ispure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things (think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].

If what you are thinking about does not pass through the Philippians 4:8 filter, then think about something else.

Having the Right Heart Helps with Right Thinking

1 Peter 5:1-11

Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed, 2 shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; 3 nor yet as lording it over [a]those allotted to your charge, but [b]proving to be examples to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading [c]crown of glory. 5 You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time,7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. 8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 [d]But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your [e]brethren who are in the world. 10 After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. 11 To Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Romans 12:3

For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

Being humble is submitting to God and those He has placed over you.  Being humble is not thinking more highly of yourself than you ought.  Humility is the gateway to right thinking.

Why Think

Proverbs 23:6-8

Do not eat the bread of [d]a selfish man,
Or desire his delicacies;
7 For as he [
e]thinks within himself, so he is.
He says to you, “Eat and drink!”
But his heart is not with you.
8 You will vomit up [
f]the morsel you have eaten,
And waste your [
g]compliments.

Who you are is how you think and how you think is who you are.  How you think is formed by the answers to the questions that have been forced upon who you are.

Romans 12:1-2

12 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice,[a]acceptable to God, which is your [b]spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this [c]world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may [d]prove what the will of God is, that which is good and [e]acceptable and perfect.

Thinking correctly gives you access to the good, acceptable and perfect will of God.

Luke 6:43-45

43 “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. 45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart[g] brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Only God can truly change your heart.  Our spirit then communes with His Spirit.  Change your heart and then change your mind.  Then speak into being the wonderful imaginations of your thoughts.

The Power of Right Thinking

Genesis 11:6

The Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have [a]the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose [KRM: plan, imagine] to do will be [b]impossible for them.

Right thinking mixed with agreement and the spoken word (declarations or decrees) is a doorway to the impossible.

How to Change Your Thinking

2 Timothy 3:16-17

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

How to Make Decisions

Proverbs 3:5-8

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
8 It will be healing to your [
c]body
And refreshment to your bones.

Acts 1:23-26

23 So they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas (who was also called Justus), and Matthias. 24 And they prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two You have chosen 25 to [a]occupy this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.”26 And they [b]drew lots for them, and the lot fell [c]to Matthias; and he was [d]added to the eleven apostles.

Worry is the Poison of Healthy Thinking

Matthew 6:25-33

25 “For this reason I say to you, [n]do not be worried about your [o]life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the [p]air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27 And who of you by being worried can add a single [q]hour to his [r]life? 28 And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, 29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! 31 Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ 32 For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But [s]seek first [t]His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be [u]added to you.

34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will [v]care for itself. [w]Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Proverbs 23:4-5

Do not weary yourself to gain wealth,
Cease from your [
b]consideration of it.
5 [
c]When you set your eyes on it, it is gone.
For wealth certainly makes itself wings
Like an eagle that flies toward the heavens.
